Police and law enforcement
There should be a Federal Minister of Police and no state police ministers. The head of each State police department (Police Commissioner) should report to the Federal Police Minister.
Some of the money saved from not having state governments should enable police numbers to grow and police pay to increase. More police on the streets rather than behind desks is our goal.
Over time any new Federal laws on crime will replace the conflicting state criminal laws if they do contradict each other. There are hundreds of laws relating to evidence and other legal matters that differ between the states.
Police officers wanting to move between states should be made easier through a nation wide transfer system.
Traffic and road rules will become similar across all states and territories over time.
At the moment criminal can cross state borders but the police cannot. We want to change this which gives Police men and women to pursue criminal and work with other State Police departments more closely.
As our nation becomes more unified, hopefully crime rates will fall and police will have less work to do.
